Our Partnership Program

Every school year, over one hundred businesses and service organizations help the Skagit Valley Herald provide newspapers for area classrooms through the Newspaper in Education (NIE) program.

Under a teacher’s guidance, students use the newspapers in a variety of subjects. Sports statistics might be used in math, or the classified ads might be used to help students understand abbreviations. Naturally, there is a strong focus on current events and on all that is happening in our rapidly-changing world.

The Skagit Valley Herald provides an experienced, on-staff teacher who shares lesson materials and presents workshops so teachers and students can use each newspaper to its fullest potential.

Each Newspaper in Education (NIE) Partner is acknowledged in a large, full color “Thank You, NIE Partners” ad that appears quarterly in the Skagti Valley Herald.

If you are interested in supporting this effort, please contact Eileen Woods at 360 416-2182 or nie@skagitvalleyherald.com.
